How To Mix Your Existing Furniture With the Vintage Finds That Create a “WOW” Factor!
We’re always searching for design inspiration and good ideas. But 100 tips, 20 decorating rules, there’s a lot out there. We like some of House Beautiful’s ideas, but there are too many.
We’ve reduced it to the 7 best easy tips you can use to quickly make a place feel like home!
Here they are:
1) Magazines are a great source of inspiration, as you’ll see below. I use them for ideas of what to buy for the store as well as how to arrange displays.
2) Add a POP of color!
Here the coral color pops from the white chairs and dark table.
Even subtly, like here where the color in the bottles ties to the green apples on the coffee table and the shabby green crackled paint on the old door accent piece.
Or in an elegant setting with the flower petals matching the drapery panels.
4) Add an element of nature and texture, in this room the rattan chairs and wood coffee table (and notice how the color of the upholstery subtly matches the Asian garden stool used as an end table.)
Or here where a vintage wicker (for texture) headboard is painted black to pop against the white walls and the yellow geometric accent in the throw is picked up in the flowers on the nightstand.
5) Don’t be afraid to paint vintage furniture. Sometimes a
little color is better that all stained wood throughout.
6) Collect something and show it off. Even if it’s just for your own enjoyment.
Vintage ceramics and glassware are very collectable and fun to show off. (and again notice the pop of color and how it adds interest and yet ties the different objects together)
Give it a try! Use any of these quick and easy ideas and see if you can feel effect it has on you and your visitors when you walk into the room!
